A walkable brain? New exhibition house coming - Germany's Bold New Addiction Centre Blends Art, Science, and Reality
A new exhibition centre focused on addiction education is set to open in Erfurt by autumn 2027. The World of Temptations Foundation plans to create a space that blends art, science, and interactive learning. Funding for the project comes from Germany's Federal Ministry of Health, highlighting its national importance.
The foundation recently gave a preview of its approach with the exhibition 'Only Good Vibes? Cannabis, Smoke, and Reality'. This early showcase hinted at how the centre will tackle complex themes around dependency. The main site, located on the edge of Erfurt's Old Town, will undergo archaeological surveys starting this spring.
The heart of the centre will be the 'Brain Space', featuring an interactive brain model and possibly a walk-through exhibit. This area will explore how addiction affects the brain, offering visitors a deeper understanding of neurological processes. Alongside this, an 'Innovation Hub' will bring together researchers and healthcare professionals to develop new strategies for addiction treatment.
The centre will host permanent and rotating exhibitions, along with art installations and hands-on activities. These elements aim to engage visitors with the realities of dependency in an accessible way. With nearly 8.2 million adults in Germany struggling with addiction—and 13 million more misusing alcohol or medications—the project addresses a pressing public health issue.
Once completed, the World of Temptations Foundation will provide a first-of-its-kind space for education and research. The centre's mix of exhibitions, interactive features, and expert collaboration is designed to raise awareness and drive progress in addiction support. Its opening in 2027 will mark a significant step in Germany's approach to public health education.
