6.4 Million Euros for the Energy-Efficient Renovation of the Gescher Multi-Sports Hall

Gescher secures €6.4M to transform aging triple sports hall into an eco-friendly hub

Gescher has secured €6.4 million in funding for a major renovation of its triple sports hall. The grant will cover 80 percent of the project costs, marking a significant investment in the town’s infrastructure. Mayor Anne Kortüm highlighted the importance of the funds for the much-needed upgrades. The renovation will involve a complete structural and technical overhaul of the existing sports hall on Borkener Damm. Persistent pipe leaks beneath the hall floor will be permanently fixed, while the heating and ventilation systems will receive a full upgrade. Damage to the roof, walls, and floors will also be repaired as part of the project.

The existing changing room complex will be demolished and rebuilt. A new accessible grandstand will be added to improve usability for all visitors. The project falls under the 'Energy-Efficient Public Buildings' funding guideline, which aims to cut primary energy demand by at least 50 percent.

Government President Andreas Bothe has publicly backed the initiative. The modernisation will enhance energy efficiency, ensure long-term cost savings, and improve accessibility for the facility. The funding will transform the sports hall into a more sustainable and functional space. It will also support climate protection efforts through reduced energy consumption. The upgrades are expected to benefit the community for years to come.
