Google acquires no-code app platform AppSheet to boost Cloud services
Google has acquired AppSheet, a no-code platform for building mobile apps. The deal brings the Seattle-based startup into Google Cloud, where its team will continue supporting current users. Founded in 2014, AppSheet has helped over 18,000 creators deploy around 200,000 applications without traditional coding.
AppSheet was launched by Praveen Seshadri and Brian Sabino in 2014. The company secured early backing with seed funding from New Enterprise Associates in 2015. By 2018, it had gained recognition as an innovative tech startup from TiE, and in 2019, Forrester Research named it a leader in low-code app development.
The platform specialises in simplifying app creation, offering tools for data capture, team collaboration, and custom displays. Its user base includes businesses and individuals who build workflows, dashboards, and mobile solutions without writing code. Google's acquisition aligns with its broader strategy to expand cloud services. Amit Zavery, vice president of Google Cloud, stated that AppSheet's capabilities will complement Google's existing tools. The company plans to integrate the platform's features to reimagine how users develop and deploy applications.
The AppSheet team will now operate under Google Cloud while maintaining support for its current customers. With over 200,000 apps built on its platform, the acquisition positions Google to further streamline app development for non-technical users. The move reflects growing demand for no-code solutions in enterprise and small business markets.
