Grevenbroich powers up with new solar panels at local school

Grevenbroich has expanded its renewable energy efforts with a new photovoltaic system at Käthe-Kollwitz Comprehensive School. The installation, unveiled on March 10, 2026, marks another step in the city's push for cleaner electricity. Further solar projects are already in the pipeline for this year under the Gigawatt Pact funding scheme.

The newly installed system covers the roofs of Building D at Käthe-Kollwitz Comprehensive School. It consists of 132 modules, each producing 450 watts, for a total capacity of around 60 kWp. The project cost approximately €70,000, with 90% of eligible expenses funded through the progres.nrw programme.

The system will supply part of the school's electricity directly from solar power, cutting CO₂ emissions. More installations are planned at the same school, including a 30 kWp system on the triple gymnasium and another 30 kWp array on the new workshop building. Beyond Käthe-Kollwitz, additional projects are set for Kapellen Daycare Center and both campuses of Wilhelm von Humboldt Comprehensive School. The municipal utilities' building construction department is handling all planning and execution for these measures.

The latest solar installation at Käthe-Kollwitz Comprehensive School follows a broader plan to increase renewable energy across Grevenbroich. With funding support and further projects scheduled, the city aims to reduce reliance on non-renewable electricity. The new systems will directly lower emissions while meeting local energy needs.
