Halle's Fun Recycling Campaign Kicks Off with Interactive Learning

Halle (Saale) is joining the nationwide 'Germany Recycles' campaign from June 6 to 21, 2026. The initiative aims to make waste separation more engaging while boosting recycling rates for plastics, metals, paper, and glass. Organisers want to show how small actions at home can help conserve valuable resources. The campaign kicks off with an information hub in Halle’s Market Square on June 11, running from 1 to 6 p.m. Visitors will find a mobile exhibition truck, air sculptures, and experts from 'Waste Separation Works' alongside the city’s waste advisory team. Interactive activities, including a quiz wheel and children’s games led by the 'Sorting Bear' mascot, will make learning about recycling fun.

Behind the campaign is 'Waste Separation Works', an initiative set up in 2020 by Germany’s ten dual waste systems. Their goal is to raise household awareness about correct sorting, ensuring fewer raw materials end up wasted. By turning education into entertainment, the event hopes to encourage long-term participation in recycling efforts.

The Market Square event offers hands-on ways to learn about the circular economy. Experts will be on hand to answer questions and demonstrate best practices. The campaign’s success could lead to higher recycling rates and less waste in Halle’s landfills.
