How a $75 bag of old Apple gadgets turned into $700 profit

A tech enthusiast has turned a $75 bargain into a profit of over $700 after buying a bag of old Apple devices. Hugh Jeffreys spotted the listing on Facebook Marketplace and met the seller in a parking lot to complete the deal.

The bag contained a mix of iPhones, iPads, and iPods—some in working condition, others needing repair or locked to previous owners.

Jeffreys purchased the lot of 20 devices, including 11 iPhones, several iPods, and a few iPads. The models ranged from an iPhone 4S running iOS 5 to newer versions like the iPhone XS, 11, and 12 Pro. Classic iPods, such as the 5th-generation and iPod Touch 2nd-generation, were also part of the haul.

The seller had advertised the devices as 'unlocked and working,' but Jeffreys soon discovered inconsistencies. While most functioned, some required repairs before resale. Two iPads and an iPhone 7 Plus were locked, reducing their value. Despite the issues, the unlocked iPhone XS alone sold for $100, making the purchase worthwhile. Older models, like the iPhone 4S and vintage iPods, held potential value for collectors. Jeffreys estimated the total resale worth of the devices at around $800, securing a significant profit. The seller's background raised curiosity—Jeffreys suspected they might run a repair shop, given the variety and condition of the devices.

The transaction proved lucrative, with Jeffreys earning over $700 in profit from a $75 investment. Most devices were resold after minor fixes, while locked or outdated models still held niche appeal. The deal highlights how second-hand tech can yield unexpected returns for savvy buyers.
