Kamothe celebrates World Environment Day with tree planting and plastic-free pledges

Shri Sakhi Pratishthan marked World Environment Day with a series of green initiatives at a garden near Shri Swami Samarth Math in Sector 8, Kamothe. The event brought together local residents and office-bearers for activities aimed at sustainability and environmental awareness.

The celebrations began with a focus on tree planting. Members of the organisation planted various saplings and committed to caring for them until they mature into full-grown trees. This effort aligned with the theme ‘One Person – One Tree – One Responsibility’ to encourage individual accountability for the environment.

As part of the *‘Plastic-Free Shopping’* campaign, over 100 citizens received free eco-friendly cloth bags. The initiative aimed to reduce plastic use and promote sustainable alternatives in daily life. Another key feature was *‘No Vehicle Day’*, where participants voluntarily avoided motorised transport. By walking or cycling instead, they helped cut fuel consumption and lower pollution levels. The programme, led by Shri Sakhi Pratishthan Founder-President Jayshree Sudrik Jha, saw strong community involvement. Local residents and office-bearers actively took part in the activities, contributing to the event’s success. The day concluded with a Traditional Tree Worship ceremony. This ritual honoured trees and expressed gratitude for nature’s role in sustaining life.

The event’s success came from the combined efforts of participants who embraced eco-friendly practices. Through tree planting, plastic-free shopping, and reduced vehicle use, the celebration reinforced community commitment to environmental protection. The initiatives set a practical example for future sustainability efforts in the area.
