Kazakh wind farm builder reclaims $120K after tax authority stalls refund

A wind farm construction company in Satpayev has recovered millions in overpaid taxes after prosecutors intervened. Mezgilder Qushteri LLP had struggled for months to reclaim excess VAT payments on imported equipment. The refund came only after the Satpayev Prosecutor’s Office stepped in to resolve the delay. The issue began in July 2025, when Mezgilder Qushteri LLP first applied to the State Revenue Department for a VAT refund. Despite repeated requests, the company received no resolution for the overpaid taxes. The prolonged delay threatened the firm’s operations, as the funds were tied up during a critical phase.

An investigation by the Satpayev Prosecutor’s Office later confirmed the company’s claims. Prosecutors issued a supervisory order, forcing the tax authorities to process the refund. As a result, the business was reimbursed 55 million tenge in excess VAT payments. The intervention also addressed a broader problem: a shortage of raw materials that had hampered the company’s work. By securing the refund, prosecutors helped stabilise the firm’s financial position and ensure its projects could continue.

The refund of 55 million tenge has eased financial pressure on Mezgilder Qushteri LLP. The prosecutor’s action resolved both the tax dispute and a critical supply shortage. The company can now proceed with its wind farm construction without further delays.
