Khabarovsk's new workshop trains next-gen aircraft engineers for tech independence
A new production and education workshop has opened in Khabarovsk at the Prommash plant. The facility will train aircraft engineers and support the region’s push for technological independence in aviation manufacturing.
The workshop was launched with funding from private investors and a grant from Russia’s Ministry of Science and Higher Education. It offers students hands-on experience with advanced equipment, including a vacuum furnace, CNC lathe, and high-performance computers for component design.
Inside the facility, trainees can simulate mass production and refine manufacturing processes in a dedicated computer lab. The programme focuses on bridging the gap between academic theory and real-world industry demands. Andrey Slobodenyuk, head of the Regional Engineering Center, highlighted the workshop’s role in preparing engineers for specific challenges in the aerospace sector. The initiative aims to strengthen local expertise and reduce reliance on external technology.
The new workshop provides both practical training and access to modern machinery. Its opening marks a step toward building a self-sufficient aircraft manufacturing sector in the region. Engineers trained here will enter the workforce with specialised skills in aerospace production.
