Komsomolsk-on-Amur is gearing up for a dual celebration of Russia Day and City Day. The city has marked the occasion with a major greening initiative, planting over a thousand trees and shrubs in a new park near the 'Komsomolsk-on-Amur: City of Labor Valor' stele. More than 500 residents took part in the planting drive, one of the largest phases of the city’s greening campaign. They planted a variety of species, including hydrangeas, viburnum, maples, bladder senna, Amur lilacs, mock orange, cotoneaster, spruces, and flowers. Local landscape designers developed the park’s concept, ensuring a diverse and sustainable green space.
The effort brought together teams from over twenty local enterprises, such as industrial plants, utility companies, lawmakers, veterans, students, activists, and business representatives. The park itself serves as a tribute to those who defended Russia during the Great Patriotic War, as noted by Mayor Dmitry Zaplutayev.
The stele, unveiled last year, has been at the centre of ongoing improvements to the area. The honorary title 'City of Labor Valor' was awarded to Komsomolsk-on-Amur by the Russian president in 2021, further honouring its historical contributions. The new park adds a significant green space to the city’s landscape. It stands as a lasting tribute to the region’s history and the collective efforts of its residents. The project also highlights the city’s commitment to environmental enhancement ahead of its celebrations.
