Komsomolsk-on-Amur revives its historic buildings in sweeping restoration drive

Komsomolsk-on-Amur has begun a major project to restore the facades of its historic buildings. The initiative forms part of the city’s Long-Term Plan for Comprehensive Socioeconomic Development, aiming to preserve its architectural heritage for future generations. The first phase of the restoration was completed last year at 12 Uralskaya Street. Workers refurbished the building’s facade and added artistic architectural lighting to highlight its features. Plans for each project were developed with input from specialist restoration architects and approved by heritage conservation authorities.

Work is now progressing across multiple sites. Scaffolding has gone up at 17 Lenin Prospect and 32 Mira Prospect, while preparatory work is underway at 43 Mira Prospect. Other buildings currently under restoration include 23, 32, and 36 Lenin Prospect, as well as 8, 20, 26, and 28 Mira Prospect. All ten structures designated for renovation by 2026 have seen work begin. The city has confirmed that licensed contractors with expertise in cultural heritage restoration are carrying out the repairs. By 2027, the effort will extend further to include buildings along Truda Alley and additional prospects.

The restoration programme will continue through 2026, with ten key buildings set to be revitalised. Once complete, the project will move on to additional historic sites, ensuring the preservation of Komsomolsk-on-Amur’s architectural legacy. All work remains under the supervision of heritage conservation authorities to maintain authenticity and quality.
