Kuwait's new digital system transforms domestic worker sponsorships
Kuwait’s Ministry of Interior has launched a new digital service for managing domestic worker and driver sponsorships. The system, available through the Sahel app, aims to simplify residency procedures and cut processing times. It forms part of the country’s broader push to modernise government services through digital transformation. The updated service allows residents to submit and track applications entirely online. This removes the need for in-person visits to service centres, speeding up approvals and reducing paperwork.
The system also introduces clearer rules for sponsorship eligibility. Married, divorced, or widowed men with families can now sponsor up to three domestic workers and one driver. Single men, however, are limited to sponsoring one driver only. For women, single applicants may sponsor one domestic worker, while married, divorced, or widowed women with children can sponsor one domestic worker and one driver. Beyond convenience, the new platform strengthens oversight of domestic labour categories. Officials say it will ensure fairer access to services while improving digital governance across government systems.
The digital service aligns with Kuwait’s ongoing efforts to streamline government transactions. By moving sponsorship processes online, authorities expect faster turnaround times and tighter regulation. The Sahel app now handles all steps, from application to approval, for domestic worker and driver permits.
