Langenfeld schools turn trash into prize-winning upcycled chairs

Three schools in Langenfeld have won prizes for turning old materials into creative chairs. The competition was part of the 1,000 Reusable Cups for Langenfeld campaign. Each winning school's parent-teacher association will now receive a share of nearly €2,000 in prize money.

A jury picked the best designs from 21 entries, judging them on originality, craftsmanship, sustainability, and votes from visitors. The winners included Friendship Bench by Kopernikus-Realschule, Global Chair by LVR-Paul-Klee-Schule, and Kitty's Paradise by Prismaschule.

All entries used upcycled materials, giving discarded items a new purpose. The campaign aimed to encourage creativity while promoting environmental awareness among students.

The prize money will go to the parent-teacher associations of the three winning schools. Their projects highlighted how upcycling can combine art with sustainability. The initiative also supported broader efforts in North Rhine-Westphalia to involve students in eco-friendly practices.
