Lufthansa to use Starlink for in-flight internet - Lufthansa to offer Starlink's ultra-fast in-flight Wi-Fi by 2029

Lufthansa Group has announced plans to upgrade its entire fleet with Starlink's high-speed in-flight internet. The rollout will begin in late 2026, covering all 850 aircraft by 2029. Passengers will gain access to streaming, cloud-based work, and faster browsing during flights.

The new system will replace the airline's current Wi-Fi technology, which will stay active until the transition finishes. Starlink, known for its network of over 9,000 satellites, promises the fastest in-flight connections available. However, none of these satellites are currently in use for Lufthansa's service, as no aircraft are equipped yet.

Free browsing will be offered to frequent flyers and passengers with a registered account. The upgrade aims to provide smoother streaming, real-time work capabilities, and improved connectivity throughout the journey.

The full upgrade is set to complete by 2029, with the first installations starting in the second half of 2026. Once finished, all Lufthansa Group flights will feature Starlink's high-speed internet. The change will allow passengers to use data-heavy applications without interruption.
