"French Lifestyle": Macron Aims to Boost Wine Exports - Macron rallies to revive French wine exports amid global trade struggles

French President Emmanuel Macron has called for a stronger push to boost French wine exports. Speaking at the Wine Paris trade fair, he highlighted the need to defend the industry against growing challenges. His comments came as the sector faces declining sales and shifting global trade conditions.

At the event, Macron was gifted a bottle of wine labelled For Shure—a playful nod to his speech in Davos. The trade show, expected to attract 60,000 visitors, features 6,200 exhibitors, including 60 specialising in non-alcoholic drinks.

The president stressed that French wine remains a cornerstone of national identity. Yet the industry has struggled, with exports dropping by seven percent last year. Shipments to the U.S. alone fell by 20 percent due to tariffs.

France has responded by imposing retaliatory tariffs on American goods and securing EU trade exemptions. Domestic campaigns to encourage wine consumption have also been launched. Despite these efforts, Macron urged producers to target new markets like India, Canada, and Brazil.

Climate change and evolving consumer tastes add further pressure. The industry must now adapt while maintaining its global reputation.

Macron's speech underscored the urgency of reviving French wine exports. With trade barriers and environmental challenges persisting, the sector's future depends on expanding into fresh markets. The government's support and promotional efforts will play a key role in this push.
