Magadan's Night of Geography Blends Adventure, History, and Art in One Unforgettable Evening

A lively crowd gathered outside the Magadan headquarters of the Russian Geographical Society for the annual Night of Geography event. Inside, visitors explored interactive stations, historical exhibits, and creative challenges designed to test their knowledge of the region’s past and landscapes. The evening kicked off with guided tours showcasing rare artifacts from the ancient town of Gizhiga and the expeditions of Rudolf Sedov. Participants then ventured along protected trails, solving geographical riddles and decoding clues—some even tackling mysteries about supposed extraterrestrial visitors.

Newcomers inside the headquarters joined educational quests and interactive stations. Natalya Rastegayeva, an English teacher, engaged the audience with intricate geographical poems that required sharp focus. Meanwhile, Irina Borshchevskaya presented a mobile exhibition by the Magadan Regional Museum, titled *Northern Ex Libris*, featuring rare books and historical documents. Vera Smirnova, director of the Magadan Museum Complex, hosted a quiz that drew enthusiastic participation. As a special treat, the *Okhotnik* Publishing House offered a collection of memoirs and diaries from Northeast residents. The event also included a plein-air art session, blending creativity with geographical exploration. Every winner received a diploma, personally awarded by Natalya Busalaeva, deputy head of Magadan’s Youth Affairs and Public Relations Department.
