Marratxi upgrades rural roads to boost safety and farm access

Marratxi has completed repairs on several unpaved rural roads as part of its ongoing infrastructure maintenance plan. The project aimed to improve safety and accessibility for residents, farmers, and maintenance vehicles ahead of the busy summer season.

The works were carried out by the municipality’s Environment department. Heavy machinery was brought in to level uneven terrain, reinforce weakened surfaces, and address long-standing issues like potholes and dust. These problems had previously been raised by local residents and property owners.

The restored roads connect residential zones with agricultural land. Councillor Manuel Vega explained that the intervention would help maintain safer routes while preserving the rural landscape. Farmers and landowners welcomed the changes, noting that smoother, more stable roads would make daily travel easier and reduce wear on vehicles. Municipal authorities stressed that regular upkeep of these routes cuts long-term repair costs. The improvements are also expected to prevent further deterioration during periods of heavy use, such as harvest season.

The completed repairs form part of Marratxi’s broader investment in urban and rural infrastructure. Better-maintained roads will support agricultural access, emergency services, and residents living outside the town centre. Further maintenance projects are planned as part of the ongoing rural upkeep strategy.
