Mexico City's New Floating Garden Park Floods Hours After Opening

Mexico City’s Tlalpan Floating Garden, a newly opened elevated park, faced severe flooding just hours after its inauguration. Heavy rain left large sections of the walkway underwater, causing disruption for visitors trying to cross the area. The park officially opened on Sunday afternoon. Shortly after, torrential rain swept through the city, overwhelming the storm drains along the Floating Garden Walkway. Despite the covered sections, water seeped in, forcing people to take shelter where they could.

The flooding marked the second day in a row that the path—connecting Chabacano to Pino Suárez—became impassable. Many visitors turned back or attempted to jump over the deepest puddles to keep moving. Some areas remained submerged long after the rain eased. The repeated flooding has raised concerns about the walkway’s drainage system. Visitors continue to face difficulties navigating the route during heavy downpours. City officials have yet to comment on potential solutions.
