Moroccan Startup GoSwap Secures Funding to Expand Electric Scooter Battery-Swapping Network
Moroccan startup GoSwap has secured its first round of funding from the Azur Innovation Fund. The investment will help expand its network of automated battery-swapping stations for electric scooters across the country. Currently, the company operates 20 swap cabinets in Casablanca, located at CashPlus stores, Petrom, and Shell stations. GoSwap specialises in fast battery swaps for electric two-wheelers. Using its system, riders can replace a depleted battery in under 10 seconds. The technology aims to make electric mobility more affordable and practical by cutting costs and extending vehicle range.
The Azur Innovation Fund chose to back GoSwap because of its ability to address economic, operational, and environmental challenges. With tens of millions of two-wheelers in Africa, electrification remains a significant hurdle. The funding will support the rollout of more swap stations, starting with Marrakech before expanding to other major cities. GoSwap's solution relies on a network of connected swap stations. Riders can quickly exchange batteries at convenient locations, reducing downtime and eliminating the need for long charging periods. The company's goal is to accelerate the adoption of electric mobility in North Africa.
The investment will allow GoSwap to grow beyond Casablanca and introduce its battery-swapping network to new cities. Faster deployment of electric scooters could reduce reliance on fossil fuels in urban transport. The expansion plans include Marrakech, with further locations expected to follow.
