Netherlands Launches NATO's First Dedicated Drone Combat Units

The Netherlands is set to become the first NATO country to establish dedicated drone and counter-drone units. The Dutch Armed Forces plan to recruit between 1,000 and 1,200 personnel for these specialised roles. The move follows lessons drawn from recent conflicts in Ukraine and the Middle East.

The hiring campaign for the new units will begin in April. General Onno Eichelsheim expects the first 600 recruits to join quickly, with the aim of fully integrating them across all combat branches. This includes land, air, and naval forces.
