New Jersey wildfire threatens homes amid severe drought conditions
A wildfire broke out in Hamilton Township, New Jersey, on Tuesday, burning through a wooded area near McCall Avenue and Jackson Road. Firefighters worked for hours to control the blaze, which threatened several nearby homes. The fire erupted under severe drought conditions, drying out vegetation and fuelling the flames. At its peak, around 30 firefighters tackled the heavy fire, which scorched the area but spared any structures.
The blaze came dangerously close to about six homes, all on 2-3 acre lots. Fortunately, no injuries were reported, and no buildings suffered damage. Earlier that day, the National Weather Service had issued a warning about elevated fire risks due to the dry weather.
Drought has also taken a toll on New Jersey’s agriculture, reducing crop yields across the Garden State. Authorities are now urging residents to avoid outdoor burning and to take extra care with anything that could spark a fire. The fire was eventually brought under control after a long effort. While no homes were lost, the incident highlights the ongoing risks from drought and dry conditions. Officials continue to monitor fire dangers and advise caution with potential ignition sources.
