More than 307,000 residents of Nizhny Novgorod Region have completed mandatory health checkups since January 2026. The results reveal widespread concerns, including high rates of chronic illness and lifestyle-related risks. Officials now have a clearer picture of the region’s most pressing health challenges. The screenings uncovered chronic conditions in 9,800 people. Cardiovascular diseases, respiratory problems, diabetes, and cancer emerged as the most common diagnoses.
Unhealthy habits dominated the findings. Poor diet was the top risk factor, affecting 43.9% of those examined. Physical inactivity followed closely, identified in 41.9% of residents. Smoking was reported by 26%, while 32.4% were classified as overweight.
Metabolic issues also stood out. High cholesterol appeared in 30.3% of patients, and elevated blood sugar was recorded in 8.5%. A significant 18.6% showed a high risk of developing cardiovascular disease. The data provides a detailed snapshot of health trends in Nizhny Novgorod. With nearly a third of the population checked, authorities can now target interventions more precisely. Chronic disease prevention and lifestyle improvements remain key priorities for the region.
