Construction work on the Nürnberg-Regensburg line is progressing - Nuremberg-Regensburg railway upgrade hits key milestones after six weeks
Major renovation work on the railway line between Nuremberg and Regensburg is progressing well after six weeks. German Rail has confirmed that the project remains on schedule, with thousands of workers and heavy machinery deployed daily.
The upgrades include track replacements, overhead line improvements, and station modernisations, all aimed at improving reliability and capacity on the busy route.
The renovation began in February 2023, focusing on key areas such as track construction and overhead line systems. Over 2,000 specialists and around 80 large machines are working along the route each day. So far, crews have renewed more than 60 kilometres of track bed, 15 kilometres of rail, and 32 sets of points.
New infrastructure is also taking shape, with over 20 overhead line masts erected and more than 1,000 foundations laid for additional supports. Station upgrades include the demolition of old platforms and the construction of new ones, such as the house platform at track 11 in one of the key stops.
Passenger services have been adjusted to accommodate the work. A substitute bus network, using over 90 buses across eight routes, now runs smoothly after early delays. Real-time tracking is available through a dedicated website, helping travellers plan their journeys. Some bus schedules, like the S3 line to Feucht, have been tweaked to better align with the temporary service.
Project manager Lucas Griep confirmed that all trades are operating at full speed. He noted that the collaboration between teams has kept the project on track, with no major setbacks reported so far.
The improvements will enhance the railway's performance once complete. Passengers can expect more reliable services and modernised stations along the Nuremberg-Regensburg line. German Rail continues to monitor progress closely as the work advances.
