SEK Deployment in Duisburg: Man Shot with Knife - Police shoot armed man after standoff at Duisburg mental health facility

A man was shot and wounded by police during an operation at a mental health facility in Duisburg. The incident began early in the morning when officers responded to reports of an armed individual barricaded in the attic. One officer suffered minor injuries before tactical units arrived at the scene.

Police were called to the residential facility at around 8:00 a.m. after a man allegedly armed with a knife locked himself in the attic. Upon arrival, one of the first officers at the scene was slightly injured by the suspect.

Specialist tactical units (SEK) were then deployed to handle the situation. Officers made contact with the man through an attic window, using a fire department ladder truck to reach him. At some point during the confrontation, an officer opened fire, wounding the man.

The exact circumstances leading to the shooting remain unclear. The injured man was later taken to hospital for treatment.

The incident resulted in the suspect being hospitalised with gunshot wounds. Authorities have not yet provided details on the tactics used by the SEK unit before the shooting. An investigation into the sequence of events is expected to follow.
