Portugal's new leader targets healthcare reform by 2027 under bold plan

The announcement was made last Friday, and the directive is clear: there's no time to waste. António José Seguro was elected on the promise that he would "foster consensus" in Portuguese society, and he has chosen healthcare as his mission for the first year in office. He now has until March 9, 2027—marking one year since his arrival at Belém Palace—to deliver results. The second year will bring a different focus: demographics, with housing at its core, an issue that weighs more heavily on young people than any other.

It is within this framework that the former health minister from António Costa's first government, Adalberto Campos Fernandes, has been appointed to oversee the development of this Strategic Health Pact.
