Rare footage reveals young Amur tiger's hunting and serene moments in the wild
A young female Amur tiger has been captured on film in a rare display of hunting behaviour. The footage, taken in the Sikhote-Alin Reserve, shows the predator in action before an unexpected moment of calm. Wildlife experts also recorded another unusual encounter with the same species in Land of the Leopard National Park.
The tiger, identified as the daughter of a known female named Severena, was first spotted in Primorye’s protected wilderness. She appeared focused on her daily routines, ignoring a picturesque viewpoint nearby. Instead, she began stalking a hoofed animal, moving with deliberate patience.
Rather than completing the hunt, the predator allowed her prey to escape. Shortly after, she paused to take in the scenery, a behaviour rarely observed in wild tigers. The moment was later captured again when she posed for the reserve’s director, adding to the unique documentation of her activities. Meanwhile, another Amur tiger was filmed in Land of the Leopard National Park. The sighting, though brief, provided further insight into the elusive species’ movements within the region.
The footage offers a glimpse into the life of a young Amur tiger, from hunting instincts to moments of stillness. Both incidents were recorded in protected areas, highlighting ongoing efforts to monitor and conserve the species. The observations add to the growing body of evidence on tiger behaviour in the wild.
