Rare white-sided dolphin rescued and freed after near-death ordeal in Russia

A rare white-sided dolphin was rescued by volunteers near Kiselyov Rock in Russia’s Tuapse District. The animal, found severely weakened, was later released back into the sea after treatment. Its recovery marks a rare success for local wildlife efforts. The dolphin was discovered in poor condition, suffering from extreme emaciation and inflamed wounds. Its injuries were covered in an oily film, likely from pollution or a recent accident. Volunteers quickly stepped in to clean and treat the wounds.

By the evening, the animal showed signs of improvement. It regained enough strength to stay afloat without assistance. The following day, once stable, the dolphin swam away independently into deeper waters.

The rescue highlights the risks marine life faces in the region, including pollution and injury. After medical care and monitoring, the dolphin’s return to the wild offers a positive outcome for conservation teams. Authorities continue to track its progress where possible.
