Renowned Pushkin scholar Alexei Ilyichev dies at 63 in Vladivostok
Alexei Viktorovich Ilyichev, a renowned Doctor of Philology and Pushkin scholar, has died in Vladivostok at the age of 63. His passing on June 9 marks the end of a distinguished career dedicated to Russian literature. Ilyichev was widely respected for his deep expertise in Pushkin studies, a field he pursued with passion from an early age. Born into an academic family, Ilyichev’s mother, Muza Ilyicheva, taught Russian language and literature, while his father, Viktor Ilyichev, held prominent scientific roles. After graduating from high school in Vladivostok, he earned a degree in Philology from Leningrad State University. In 2004, he successfully defended his doctoral dissertation, focusing on Pushkin’s literary legacy.
Ilyichev later led the Scientific and Organizational Center of the All-Russian Pushkin Museum in St. Petersburg. His contributions to culture and education earned him the prestigious Pushkin Medal. Upon returning to Vladivostok, he organised events celebrating Russian literature and launched the Pushkin-225 project at the Primorsky Regional Public Library named after Maxim Gorky. Ilyichev’s work left a lasting impact on the study and promotion of Russian literary heritage. His initiatives and scholarship continue to influence educational and cultural programmes. The Pushkin Medal and his numerous projects stand as a testament to his lifelong dedication.
