Rescuers race to save stranded porpoise found near Vale Castle

A porpoise found stranded beneath Vale Castle on Sunday is now under close observation. The animal was in very poor condition when discovered, prompting an urgent response from the GSPCA. Rescue teams have since moved it to the bathing pools for overnight monitoring.

The GSPCA first attempted to guide the porpoise back into deeper water. Despite efforts to refloat it, the animal kept returning to shallow areas. Due to its weakened state, the team called for immediate veterinary support.

After stabilising the porpoise, rescuers relocated it to the bathing pools for further care. The organisation has warned that the animal may strand itself again. Meanwhile, the GSPCA continues to monitor its condition and will provide updates as needed. The public has been asked to remain alert along Guernsey's coastline. Anyone spotting a struggling porpoise or marine mammal should contact the GSPCA urgently on 01481 257261.

The stranded porpoise remains in a fragile state after being moved for overnight care. The GSPCA's ongoing efforts focus on stabilising the animal and preventing further strandings. Residents are reminded to report any sightings of marine mammals in distress immediately.
