Russia Launches National Abilympics Qualifiers for 2026 Finals

Russia has kicked off the qualifying stage of the Abilympics, a national championship for people with disabilities and health limitations. Over 2,200 participants from across the country will compete for a place in the 2026 finals. The event aims to support talent and improve employment prospects for those involved. The qualifying round spans all of Russia’s federal districts, with 735 experts from 54 regions assessing contestants. Competitions in 47 skill categories are already underway in 15 regions, including St. Petersburg and the Republic of North Ossetia–Alania. This year, the Vologda Region, the Republic of Crimea, and the Chuvash Republic will host qualifying events for the first time.

Organisers include regional governments, the Ministry of Education, the National Abilympics Center, and the presidential platform *Russia – Land of Opportunity*. Winners from each category will advance to the finals, with the list of finalists set to be announced in July. Dmitry Chernyshenko, Deputy Prime Minister, highlighted the Abilympics as a key initiative for unlocking potential. He noted its alignment with national goals outlined by President Vladimir Putin. The programme also serves as a support system, with over 93% of past participants securing employment.

The qualifying stage will determine who progresses to the 2026 National Abilympics Finals. Successful competitors will represent their regions in the next phase of the championship. The event continues to expand, offering more opportunities for people with disabilities to showcase their skills.
