Russian space industry specialists have selected a prospective site on the Moon for the construction of a permanent lunar base, RIA Novosti reports, citing Denis Kutonov, deputy director of Roscosmos's space systems department.
"A specific region on the Moon has already been chosen—the most promising for building a lunar base," he emphasized during a speech at the Russia National Center. "The research rover will traverse the area, analyzing the soil composition."
As part of Russia's national Space project, Kutonov noted, six automated lunar stations are set for launch. Four will serve as landers, while the remaining two will operate as orbital research platforms.
Earlier, Monocle reported that Gennady Krasnikov, head of the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS), announced the academy had developed a lunar exploration program through 2050. He also observed that lunar research has now become "a space race involving multiple nations."
