Russia's Superjet 100 clears factory tests, nears mass production
Russia’s Superjet 100 aircraft has reached a major milestone in its development. The first fully domestically built production model has now completed factory testing, moving closer to full certification. Officials confirm the jet is ready for serial production. The Superjet 100 programme has advanced steadily in recent months. Rostec Corporation successfully tested the PD-8, Russia’s homegrown engine designed for the aircraft. During trials, the engine proved reliable under harsh conditions, including resistance to hailstorm impacts.
Anton Alikhanov, head of Russia’s Ministry of Industry and Trade, recently declared the Superjet 100 prepared for mass production. The announcement follows progress in assembly, with 26 of the 42 contracted aircraft at various stages of construction. Factory tests on the first production model have now wrapped up, clearing a key hurdle.
The next step is type certification, scheduled for August 2026. Once approved, the aircraft will be authorised for regular commercial flights across the country. The Superjet 100’s certification will mark its entry into commercial service. With 26 planes already in assembly and engines validated, the programme is on track for wider deployment. Russian authorities expect the aircraft to play a key role in domestic aviation.
