Russian Court Fines Doctor for Breaching Training Contract After Residency

A court in Nizhny Novgorod Region has ordered a medical graduate to pay a fine for breaking her training agreement. The woman completed her cardiology residency but failed to work at the hospital she had promised to join.

The case began with a targeted education contract signed in 2019. Under the agreement, the graduate was required to take a job at a city clinical hospital after finishing her studies. She completed her residency in cardiology but did not fulfil the employment obligation.

The Kstovo City Court heard the dispute on June 4. After reviewing the evidence, judges ruled that the former student must pay 319,100 rubles (around $3,500) for violating the contract terms.

The fine reflects the cost of her training, which the hospital had funded. The ruling enforces the terms of the targeted education programme, ensuring accountability for the agreement. The graduate now faces the financial penalty as a result of her decision.
