Russian farm ordered to reclaim 60 hectares of overgrown land by 2027

A Nizhny Novgorod farming company has been ordered to clear a 60-hectare plot overrun by weeds and wild plants. The land, near Bolshoye Mamleyevo, must be restored within 11 months under a legal directive from Russian authorities. Officials have demanded the removal of dense thickets and compliance with agricultural regulations.

The plot is now covered in tall weeds, including couch grass, yarrow, and thistle. St. John's wort, chicory, and common wormwood also dominate the area. Among the overgrowth, trees and shrubs like birch, wild apple, and willow have reached heights of up to 1.5 metres.

Nizhny Novgorod Potato Systems LLC must complete reclamation work by February 8, 2027. The restored land will then need to be used strictly for its designated agricultural purpose. Authorities have stressed that any further violations could lead to stricter penalties. Previous cases show that Rosselkhoznadzor has taken strong action against similar breaches. In 2022, companies in Nizhny Novgorod and Mari El faced fines of up to 1 million rubles for misusing farmland. Some had their land use permits suspended, while others were forced to carry out restoration projects under court orders.

The company now has a clear deadline to clear the land and bring it back into proper use. Failure to meet the requirements could result in additional fines or legal consequences. The case follows a pattern of enforcement aimed at protecting agricultural land across the region.
