A new project will track illegal activities in northern European waters using advanced satellite technology. Portuguese company Tekever has partnered with the European Space Agency to lead the initiative. The goal is to monitor the Arctic and North Atlantic oceans for unauthorised fishing The collaboration falls under the European Space Agency’s Earth observation programme. Tekever will deploy radar satellite systems to detect suspicious activities at sea. This technology aims to improve surveillance in remote and hard-to-reach areas.

The project is still in its early stages. A feasibility study is underway and will continue until early next year. If successful, the system could provide real-time data to authorities patrolling northern waters.

The initiative targets illegal operations that threaten marine ecosystems and economic interests. By using satellite monitoring, authorities hope to enforce regulations more effectively. The study’s findings will determine whether the system moves forward after 2025.
