6.7 Million Euros for Secure Water Supply in Saxony - Saxony Strengthens Water Supply with €6.7 Million Crisis Investment
Saxony has invested €6.7 million in federal funds over the past five years to secure its water supply. The initiative aims to ensure reliable access to drinking water, even during emergencies. Projects have included repairs to aging infrastructure and preparations for crisis scenarios.
The Saxony State Directorate (LDS) has directed the funding under the Water Security Act. Key improvements include restoring old raw water extraction sites and installing emergency power systems at critical facilities. Water transport trailers have also been purchased to support distribution in a crisis.
LDS President Béla Bélafi stressed the importance of a dependable water supply for basic provisions during disasters. The initiative does not only focus on drinking water but also prioritises protecting waterways and the environment.
While the exact number of municipalities implementing these measures remains unclear, the funding has supported upgrades across the region.
The €6.7 million investment has strengthened Saxony's water infrastructure over the last five years. Emergency power systems, restored extraction sites, and transport trailers now help safeguard supply during disruptions. The programme continues to address both water security and environmental protection.
