Sharks Foundation's $40K Grant Fuels STEM Kits for 900 Girls This Summer

A $40,000 grant from the Sharks Foundation will help 900 girls explore science and technology this summer. The funding supported the creation of hands-on STEM kits, assembled by volunteers at SAP Center in February. The initiative aligns with the foundation's focus on expanding educational access for young learners.

The Sharks Foundation awarded the Community Assist Grant to Scientific Adventures for Girls (SAfG), a Berkeley-based organisation. SAfG works to remove barriers preventing girls from engaging in STEM, starting as early as transitional kindergarten. The grant will also fund a 27-week afterschool program at Washington Elementary, covering planning, instruction, and professional development.

On February 12, Team Teal volunteers gathered at SAP Center to assemble 900 backpacks filled with STEM kits. Each kit contains three activities designed for girls to complete alongside family members. The project reflects the Sharks Foundation's broader mission: providing educational opportunities for children in kindergarten through 12th grade. SAfG's programs aim to spark curiosity and build confidence in science and technology. The summer kits offer a way for participants to explore new interests while developing practical skills. Partnering with SAfG allows the Sharks Foundation to extend its impact in local communities.

The $40,000 grant will directly benefit 900 girls through the summer STEM kits. The funding also supports SAfG's ongoing afterschool programs in Berkeley. Both organisations continue to work towards closing the gender gap in STEM education.
