Spotify's New Tool Lets Artists Block Unwanted Music from Their Profiles
Spotify is rolling out a new tool to help artists manage their profiles more effectively. Called Artist Profile Protection, the feature aims to stop incorrect or unwanted music from appearing under their names. The move comes as more artists face issues with mistaken releases and AI-generated tracks on their pages. The feature is currently in beta testing, though the number of participating artists remains undisclosed. Those included can access the setting via Spotify for Artists on desktop or mobile web. Once activated, they will receive email alerts whenever new music is submitted under their name.
Artists can then review each submission and choose to approve or reject it. Only approved tracks will appear on their profile and count towards streaming statistics. Spotify has highlighted that open distribution, while beneficial, has also led to errors and misuse, affecting artists' catalogues and fan engagement. The company described the tool as particularly useful for musicians with common names or those frequently targeted by incorrect uploads. It also addresses the growing issue of AI-generated content being wrongly linked to artists' pages. Spotify has confirmed that protecting artist identity will be a key focus in 2026.
The new system gives artists direct control over what appears on their profiles. By filtering out unauthorised or mistaken releases, it aims to maintain the accuracy of their discographies. Spotify plans to expand the feature based on feedback from the beta phase.
