Avian Flu in Bützow - Protection Zone Established - Strict avian flu measures enforced after outbreak in Germany's Rostock district

A highly contagious avian flu outbreak has been confirmed in Bützow, within the Rostock district. Authorities have swiftly imposed strict measures to control the spread of the virus among poultry.

A three-kilometre protection zone and a ten-kilometre surveillance zone have been set up around the infected farm. Poultry owners in these areas must now follow tight restrictions to prevent further contamination.

All birds must be kept indoors or shielded from wild waterfowl. If separation from bodies of water is impossible, a full indoor housing order applies. Feeding and watering must also take place indoors to reduce infection risks.

Daily health checks for poultry within the protection zone are now mandatory. Owners must report bird numbers, deaths, and any changes to their flocks to the local veterinary office.

The new rules aim to limit the virus's spread and protect both domestic and wild bird populations. Poultry keepers in the affected zones must comply with the measures until further notice.
