Survivor demands judges' removal after attacker's shocking early release

Yeritza Bautista, a survivor of attempted feminicide, has demanded the removal of three judges after her attacker was released. The judges reduced the sentence of Carlos Enrique Arellano Nava and ordered his immediate freedom. Bautista now fears for her life, believing he may still carry out his original intent to kill her. Bautista endured two violent attacks by her ex-partner in 2020. The first left her with severe injuries, including lost teeth, jaw damage, and a shattered left knee. She later required multiple reconstructive surgeries and a lengthy rehabilitation to speak, eat, and walk again.

During the second attack, police arrested Arellano Nava as he tried to strangle her. In 2022 and 2025, courts initially sentenced him to 11 years and 8 months for attempted feminicide. However, judges Blanca García Sánchez, Erika Epifanea Reséndiz Ramírez, and Rafael Inti Castillo Serrato reclassified the crime as domestic violence. They reduced his sentence to 6 years and ordered his release on 9 June 2025.

The same judges denied Bautista full reparations and removed her protective measures. Their decision has left her without legal safeguards. Arellano Nava is now free after serving a reduced term. Bautista’s demand for the judges’ dismissal highlights her ongoing risk. The case underscores the legal changes that led to his early release and the removal of her protections.
