Thane Offers Free Oxygen Concentrators to Chronic Lung Patients

Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) is now offering free oxygen concentrators to residents with chronic lung diseases. The initiative repurposes machines donated during the pandemic’s peak. Officials say the move will ease hospital pressure and provide financial relief to struggling families. The scheme was proposed by Chief Medical Health Officer Dr. Prasad Patil and approved by Mayor Sharmila Pipolkar. It targets patients with asthma, pneumonia, lung infections, and other long-term respiratory conditions. Those from economically weaker backgrounds will receive the concentrators at no cost.

Rising pollution, lifestyle shifts, and post-COVID-19 health issues have increased respiratory illnesses in Thane. Many patients now require long-term oxygen therapy at home but face high costs for cylinders and equipment. The TMC’s solution allows them to continue treatment comfortably while reducing hospital burdens. All donated concentrators have been serviced and checked for functionality. They are ready for immediate distribution to eligible patients upon discharge or referral.

The programme ensures timely home-based care for chronic respiratory patients. It also cuts expenses for families unable to afford private oxygen supplies. Authorities expect the initiative to improve recovery rates and ease strain on local healthcare facilities.
