The Thuringian Research Prize has opened nominations for its 2024 awards, celebrating outstanding work across all academic fields. The prize, now in its 29th year, recognizes both basic and applied research, with a total fund of €50,000. Submissions will be accepted until May 4, with the winners announced at a ceremony on October 27.
Founded in 1995, the Thuringian Research Prize has honored over 240 researchers and teams for their contributions. Past winners include projects like AI-driven climate modeling from the Max Planck Institute in Jena and breakthroughs in leukemia treatment at Jena University Hospital.
This year's prize again covers two categories: Basic Research and Applied Research. Among last year's recipients was Nordhausen University of Applied Sciences, recognized for its regional circular economy initiative. The award remains open to all disciplines, from humanities and social sciences to engineering and natural sciences.
The selection process will culminate in an awards event on October 27. Researchers, whether working individually or in teams, have until May 4 to submit their nominations for consideration.
The prize continues to highlight Thuringia's research strengths, with past winners spanning climate science, medicine, and sustainable development. The €50,000 fund will be divided between the two categories, supporting further innovation in the region. Winners will be announced at the October ceremony.
