Turion Space acquires Tychee to revolutionize autonomous mission planning
Turion Space Corp. has acquired Tychee Research Group, a specialist in high-performance astronautics software. The deal brings Tychee's flagship product, the Tychee Mission Planning Library (TMPL), into Turion's existing Starfire platform. Company leaders say the move will streamline mission planning and boost autonomy in space missions.
Tychee Research Group's core offering, TMPL, is a software library designed for mission planning and engineering. The tool is already trusted in mission-critical environments, though specific users remain undisclosed. Turion plans to merge TMPL with its Starfire ecosystem, combining mission planning, manoeuvre optimisation, and autonomous systems into a single platform.
The acquisition aims to eliminate delays in traditional mission design. By integrating TMPL, Turion expects faster planning cycles and real-time adjustments during operations. This shift should help scale adoption across both government and commercial spacex programmes.
Rob Brady, Tychee's founder, will take on the role of Chief Product Officer at Turion. He will lead the product strategy for TMPL within the Starfire platform. Meanwhile, Ryan Westerdahl, Turion's CEO and co-founder, highlighted the deal's importance, calling Tychee's team and mission planning expertise an exceptional addition.
The merger of TMPL and Starfire will create a unified system for end-to-end mission management. Turion's expanded capabilities are set to improve efficiency in autonomous operations and mission execution. The company now moves forward with a strengthened team and broader software tools for the space industry.
