UK’s New Westcott Space Hub Launches to Propel Local Jobs and Innovation
A new space technology centre has opened in Buckinghamshire, filling a key gap in the UK’s research infrastructure. The Westcott Space Hub, based at Westcott Venture Park, aims to boost local jobs and support the growing space sector with advanced testing and training facilities.
The Hub sits on a historic site with over 50 years of experience in rocket engine testing. Now, it provides cutting-edge assembly, integration, and testing spaces, including a 10,000 square foot training area. A shared vacuum chamber allows companies to test electric propulsion engines without needing to move operations overseas.
URA Thrusters, a specialist in sustainable propulsion for spacecraft, has already expanded into one of the main buildings. This move lets other firms access the Hub’s world-class facilities while staying in the UK. The project is backed by £5.8m from the UK Space Agency, with an additional £15m in private sector funding, showing strong industry confidence. The initiative is led by URA Thrusters in partnership with Patrizia Hanover Property Unit Trust, Skyports Drone Services, Westcott Shared Facilities Ltd, and Buckinghamshire Council. Over the next few years, the Hub is expected to create around 100 direct jobs and support another 200 roles in the supply chain. The UK Space Agency’s Space Clusters Infrastructure Fund (SCIF) has funded 13 similar projects since 2023, investing over £45.6m to strengthen the country’s space industry.
The Westcott Space Hub will provide training, testing, and commercial workspace for UK space companies. Its opening marks a major step in keeping advanced research and development within the country. The facility is set to play a key role in growing the local economy and supporting high-skilled jobs in Buckinghamshire.
