Uzbekistan launches first space programme to boost global innovation ambitions

Uzbekistan has launched its first-ever space programme as part of a broader push into science and technology. The Central Asian nation plans to send its first astronaut into orbit and prepare for the launch of an artificial satellite. The initiative includes several major projects to accelerate technological progress. Two supercomputers and AI laboratories will be set up at 15 universities nationwide. Over 100 AI-driven projects will receive support across different industries.

A new Digital Technologies Centre will also be established to nurture young talent. The centre will focus on cutting-edge fields such as quantum computing, drones, and robotics. Additionally, four data centres are scheduled to open in 2023, further expanding the country's digital infrastructure.
