Vantive Highlights Late-Breaking High Clinical Impact Data at ERA Indicating HDx Therapy is a Practical Alternative to Online Hemodiafiltration

Vantive's HDx therapy matches OL-HDF outcomes with lower costs and water use

Vantive, a company specialising in kidney care for over 70 years, has released findings from two clinical studies on HDx therapy. The treatment, enabled by the Theranova dialyzer, appears to match the outcomes of online hemodiafiltration (OL-HDF). Early results suggest it could also cut costs and reduce water use compared to traditional methods. HDx therapy works by using a medium cut-off membrane to filter large-middle molecules—substances linked to inflammation, heart disease, and other complications in dialysis patients. Unlike OL-HDF, this approach doesn’t require extra infrastructure or staff training, making it easier to adopt in existing clinics.

Interim data from the CONCORDIA study showed HDx therapy was non-inferior to OL-HDF in terms of all-cause mortality after adjustments. The incidence rate stood at 10.7 events per 100 person-years for HDx, compared to 12.2 for OL-HDF. The therapy also performed similarly for a combined measure of death and cardiovascular events in new hemodialysis patients.

A separate analysis in Spain found HDx therapy could lower costs by 8% to 18% per session. It also used about 20% less water than OL-HDF, potentially easing resource demands for healthcare providers. The findings position HDx therapy as a practical alternative to OL-HDF, offering comparable clinical results with possible economic and environmental benefits. Vantive continues to focus on expanding treatment options for patients and care teams worldwide.
