Wiesbaden unveils sleek new administrative hub after wildlife relocation
Wiesbaden’s new administrative building for the regulatory authority (Ordnungsamt) officially opened on Friday, May 8. Located at 3 Stielstraße in Schierstein, the facility replaces an older structure that was demolished to make way for the modern development. The project brings together several city departments under one roof for the first time. The three-storey building was constructed on the site of a former office, which was torn down after the nearby vehicle registration centre began operations in 2024. Before demolition, wildlife protection measures took place: young hazel dormice (Gartenschläfer) were carefully relocated in coordination with the environmental agency.
The new facility now houses departments previously spread across multiple locations. These include public order and trade regulation, the events office, and the unit responsible for firearms, hunting, and fisheries. Inside, staff have access to meeting rooms, archive spaces, and a rooftop terrace. Lord Mayor Gert-Uwe Mende highlighted the move as a way to streamline city administration. The project was developed by the municipal company *WiBau*, which now leases the building to Wiesbaden. Its design stands out for its clean architectural lines and sustainable features, such as a green roof and a durable façade.
The opening marks the end of a multi-stage process that began with wildlife relocation and demolition. All affected departments have now moved into the new building, which aims to improve efficiency through centralised operations. The city expects the modern, eco-friendly design to serve staff and residents for years to come.
