Medicines and Cosmetics from the Lüneburg Heath - Wild Herbs Transform into Healing Remedies at This Hands-On Workshop

A two-day workshop near Amelinghausen is teaching participants how to craft natural remedies from wild herbs. Led by certified guide Marion Putensen, the seminar focuses on simple, eco-friendly alternatives to store-bought products. Attendees learn to make everything from soothing balms to immune-boosting tonics using only plants and household ingredients.

The event, called Meadow Pharmacy with Ointment Workshop, takes place in a rustic wooden cabin by Lake Lopau. Putensen, a nature and landscape expert, guides the group through blending herbs for healing and skincare. She insists that just three ointments—one for wounds, one for sore joints, and one for dry skin—can cover most everyday needs.

Participants mix a cold balm with eucalyptus and sage, then prepare a pain-relief ointment using cajeput oil and frankincense resin. Another session involves making a hand-washing paste from horse chestnut and ivy, as well as bath bombs infused with fir tree powder. For skincare, they craft exfoliating sugar hearts with healing clay and a lip balm from fir tree extracts.

The group also brews a sage deodorant from water, baking soda, and fresh sage leaves to control sweating. Putensen demonstrates an immune tonic made from rosehips, rowan berries, and apple cider vinegar. All ingredients are hypoallergenic, free of artificial fragrances, and sustainably sourced.

The workshop is part of Waldkräuterey's mission to revive traditional plant-based remedies. Located in Amelinghausen, the project promotes natural medicines and cosmetics using wild herbs from the Lüneburg Heath region.

Attendees leave with handmade products and practical knowledge for home use. The workshop highlights how simple, chemical-free remedies can replace many industrial alternatives. Putensen's approach keeps traditional herbal craftsmanship alive while offering modern, eco-conscious solutions.
