Yakutia's Bold 2036 Plan: Doubling Tourism and Tech-Driven Growth
Yakutia has unveiled an ambitious plan to transform its economy and tourism sector by 2036. The region’s new Socioeconomic Development Strategy sets clear targets, including doubling tourist numbers and boosting local industries with modern technology. The strategy is divided into three phases, with the first already completed in 2024. By 2036, Yakutia aims to have at least five technology companies listed on the stock market through initial public offerings (IPOs). The final phase, running from 2032 to 2036, will prioritise sustainable growth and innovation across key sectors.
Tourism is a major focus, with the annual visitor target rising to 726,000—double the previous goal. The region also plans to expand year-round greenhouse farming, ensuring local food production remains stable regardless of season. Industrial ambitions include leadership in unmanned aerial systems (UAS), bioeconomics, and artificial intelligence. A push for wild-harvest processing will further diversify the economy. To support local businesses, the strategy increases the share of Yakut-made products in government contracts. The 'Made in Yakutia' brand is being actively promoted to strengthen regional identity and market presence.
The strategy outlines concrete steps to modernise Yakutia’s economy over the next decade. If successful, it will position the region as a leader in technology, sustainable agriculture, and high-value manufacturing. Implementation will be closely monitored as each phase progresses toward 2036.
