Yakutsk hosts 10th IT competition for 230 young tech talents

YAKUTIA.INFO Rostelecom served as a partner for the regional final of the 10th All-Russian "My Profession Is IT" Competition in Yakutsk. The event took place in early April at Secondary School No. 39, named after N.I. Sharin. The competition brought together 230 young IT talents from across Yakutia. The provider equipped the venue with 1 Gbps internet, ensuring high-speed connectivity for participants, judges, and experts.

Alexey Grigoryev, acting director of Sakhaitelecom (a branch of Rostelecom PJSC), noted:

"Every year, our company supports young people who bring fresh approaches and creative ideas to information technology. Rostelecom not only provides technical backing for the event but also offers expert evaluations, helping participants turn their projects into reality."

The competition's practical stage gave aspiring programmers a chance to showcase their projects to leading regional companies. A total of 62 teams in two age categories—"School Students" and "University Students"—competed in the hackathon.

Fourteen school teams tackled a Rostelecom case study on developing a smart home service. Svetlana Girfanova, head of the B2C segment at Sakhaitelecom, served as a Rostelecom expert and competition judge. The team with the best solution received a special award from the company and a subscription to Rostelecom.Lyceum.

Svetlana Girfanova, deputy director of Sakhaitelecom (Rostelecom PJSC) for mass-market operations, commented:

"Future IT specialists were given the case 'Smart Home: When Wi-Fi Is Smarter Than the Owner' and tasked with brainstorming an idea, designing a concept, and presenting their project. We saw fresh perspectives from participants on managing home gadgets. Their solutions were not only feasible for real-world business challenges but also demonstrated creativity and a genuine passion for their future profession."

Held annually in Yakutia since 2016, the competition is a key event under the Digital Economy national project.**

Mikhil Struchkov, head of the regional directorate for the "My Profession Is IT" competition, added:

Over the past decade, the My Profession Is IT competition has become a reliable platform for training and supporting young IT talent. Industry partners play a key role in the project's growth. With backing from Rostelecom, the contest has expanded to remote and Arctic regions of Yakutia, including hard-to-reach areas. Thanks to the recent connection of these territories to fiber-optic infrastructure, residents now have stable access to online resources, ensuring equal opportunities for learning and competition—regardless of where they live. Following the grand finale, Yakutia's top teams will represent the region at the national level during the all-Russian final of the competition.
